To mark World Psoriasis Day, the French Psoriasis Association conducted a study to demonstrate that psoriasis is not just a skin condition, but that many other diseases can be associated with it.
Associated Diseases or Comorbidities While psoriasis is indeed a skin disease, it can also affect other parts of the body due to the chronic inflammation it causes. This inflammation can lead to or worsen other health problems, known as associated diseases or comorbidities.
From Psoriatic Arthritis to Type 2 Diabetes These diseases associated with psoriasis include psoriatic arthritis, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disorders (stroke, ischemia, angina, stenosis, atherosclerosis, atheroma), IBD (inflammatory bowel disease), obesity (BMI > 35), type 2 diabetes, depression or anxiety, and ophthalmological conditions or similar conditions (such as uveitis).
Reducing the Mental Burden on Patients These associated comorbidities demonstrate that psoriasis is indeed a significant disease. Patients with psoriasis need their condition to finally be recognized and taken into account in order to improve their self-esteem and reduce the associated mental burden.
Encouraging Research The France Psoriasis association reiterates its crucial role in supporting patients to improve their care pathway, working with healthcare professionals, and encouraging research in all its forms.
