According to a report by the Fondation de France, 10% of French people are isolated and 20% feel lonely, highlighting a link between isolation and financial insecurity. The survey reveals that 12% of French people were completely isolated in 2023, compared to 11% in 2022, having little or no contact with the five social networks. Adding those who have only one network, approximately one-third of French people are experiencing "relational fragility."
The most vulnerable, such as the unemployed (20%) and manual laborers (18%), are more isolated. The survey, conducted by Crédoc in January and July 2023, indicates that inflation is exacerbating the situation, with 70% of people reducing their outside activities due to rising prices.
Furthermore, 21% of people feel lonely, particularly young people aged 15-25 (26%), a figure that reaches 45% in the summer. Rural areas and priority neighborhoods, which are poorer than average, have more isolated people who feel lonely.
