ANSES warns against the use of the insecticide Sniper, produced in China and banned in the EU due to its toxicity.
Despite its ban in 2013, it remains used against pests such as bedbugs or cockroaches, causing increasing poisoning, sometimes fatal. Dichlorvos, a component of Sniper, can cause respiratory, eye and neurological symptoms. It is available through illegal channels and can be brought back from abroad. Poisonings have increased since 2018, with 104 cases reported between January 2022 and June 2023. The Lyon public prosecutor's office opened an investigation after the discovery of the insecticide in the home of a deceased person.
The government is raising awareness among consumers to no longer use bottles of Sniper 1000 EC DDVP.
