Depression is now the second leading cause of disability in the world. According to the WHO, the projections made suggest that it could become the first by 2030.
A high level of comorbidity
As one of the most common psychiatric pathologies, depression has a high level of comorbidity. It can be the cause of a significant impairment of social, family and professional functioning and a significant deterioration in the quality of life of those affected.
Standard treatment strategies
Therapeutic progress made in recent decades, particularly in the field of psychopharmacology, has positively modified the prognosis of depression. However, even today, a third of depressed patients do not respond or only partially respond to standard treatment strategies.
Develop new therapeutic approaches
An ambitious study carried out internationally and bringing together new experts, including certain members of the Fondation Fondamental, has just been published in the journal “Molecular Psychiatry”. Its ambition is to provide a clearer definition of therapeutic resistance in depression in order to develop new therapeutic approaches and thus improve treatments for these patients who do not respond or only partially respond to standard treatments.
