Premature ejaculation is one of the most common sexual disorders. One in five men suffer from it in France, that’s saying something! With consequences on the mind and life as a couple, as the Emoi * study carried out by the Ménarini laboratories has just highlighted.
Premature ejaculation, or persistent or repeated rapidity of ejaculation that the man cannot control, perhaps primary, which means that it exists since the beginning of sexual life, or secondary. In this case, it occurs after normal sexual relations, with the origin of a psychological, relational or physical problem. On average, the men who suffered from it and participated in the study were 39 years old and most (70%) lived as a couple.
Nightmare for the man who has a feeling of failure, loses confidence in himself in particular... source of frustration within the couple, and even though premature ejaculation can be treated, more than two thirds of men had not consulted , thinking that the problem would “sort itself out”. Or preferring to think so, because premature ejaculation is always a source of shame and a taboo subject. Some men also were unaware that there were medical solutions to overcome it.
In half of the cases, it is the woman who initiates the consultation
Because you should know, premature ejaculation is not inevitable. In any case, if the problem persists, you must dare to talk about it. With their partner of course - 73% of them admit to a feeling of "frustration" and in half of the cases, it is the woman who is at the origin of the consultation - and also to her doctor, general practitioner or sexologist who will propose solutions. Each case is different of course.
Don't give up, don't give up, talk about it and seek advice, this is the way to put an end to premature ejaculation! Not that complicated actually…
*The Emoi study was carried out on 575 patients suffering from premature ejaculation (and 290 partners) recruited by 120 sexologists or urologists between October 2013 and April 2014.
