Ichthyosis is a genetic disease that significantly impacts quality of life, due to chronic symptoms that disrupt daily activities and social life, such as itching, the highly visible and unsightly appearance of the lesions, and the shedding of scales.
Episodes of superinfection The presence of fissures in the skin can cause pain that sometimes prevents walking or performing everyday tasks. There is heat intolerance, sometimes accompanied by discomfort. The skin may experience episodes of superinfection that can increase itching, cause pain, and sometimes produce foul-smelling discharge.
A decline in self-image Due to the visible nature of the lesions, patients face negative psychosocial reactions from those around them. This disease can impact work productivity, sexual life, and lead to depressive symptoms related to a decline in self-image.
Support for people with ichthyosis The French Ichthyosis Association (AIF) is dedicated to bringing together, supporting, and informing people with ichthyosis. It also helps families cope better with the disease, combat isolation, and promotes support between people with ichthyosis and their families.
