After two months of confinement, the French will return to an almost normal life. Didier Meillerand, General Delegate of Psychodon, awareness-raiser on mental illnesses (schizophrenia, bipolar disorders, depression) provides his analysis on the effects that deconfinement can have on our mental health.
The increase in addictive behaviors
One of the harmful effects of confinement has been the increase in addictive behaviors (alcohol, tobacco, screens, self-medication, etc.) and this could continue or even increase when confinement is lifted. The risk of an addiction boom should not be neglected.
Post-traumatic stress
For many people, there will be post-traumatic stress, trauma or psychological injury linked to the confrontation with death. Isolation, deprivation of liberty and social distancing can cause after-effects: sleep problems, anxiety, depression.
A feeling of distrust
You will have to get used to being around another environment, which will probably be anxiety-provoking because it is marked by the health crisis. Finding a social connection and meeting other people can arouse anxiety, such as the fear of being contaminated or the fear of public transport. This can trigger aggressive and suspicious behavior.
