Philippe Croizon, the quad-amputee adventurer and extreme swimmer, launched an application called “VIP” (for “Very Important Parking”). This application geolocates parking spaces reserved for People with Reduced Mobility (PRM).
Available on Android, Play Store and Apple Store, it is easy to use, especially with voice guidance. Via databases, but also partnerships established with Indigo or Effia, “VIP” has mapped around 500,000 spaces and places reserved for PRMs in car parks. Please note that a parking space for a person with reduced mobility must meet several conditions such as measuring 3.30 m in width and 5 m in length at least. It must also allow 80 cm along the vehicle to facilitate maneuvering.
The law establishes several rules concerning parking spaces reserved for people with reduced mobility. Thus, municipalities with more than 5,000 inhabitants must provide disabled spaces and accessible parking areas. Unfortunately, many do not respect this obligation 1. Nor does that of reserving 2% of parking spaces for people with reduced mobility. Hence this ingenious idea. “I regularly give conferences all over France and I have noticed that although regulations exist regarding PRM parking, their application remains uneven across the country, due to lack of monitoring and, sometimes, blatant non-compliance. quotas. This is why VIP will play an essential role,” explains Philippe Croizon.
