Monday, the Regional Health Agency (ARS) of Pays de la Loire announced the opening of an administrative investigation following the death of a fifth-grade student from Saint-Dominique college, near Nantes, in Loire- Atlantic, after receiving a vaccine against papillomavirus.
The ARS clarified that the student's discomfort, followed by a fall, was not linked to the vaccine or its quality, but rather to the stress induced by vaccination. The investigation aims to clarify the circumstances of the vaccination, the medical surveillance of the student at school and the medical care provided to him.
The teenager had a “heavy fall” after feeling unwell 15 minutes after vaccination, which led to head trauma. His condition deteriorated and he died on October 27. Following this incident, the vaccination campaign was suspended in Loire-Atlantique before the school holidays, resuming on November 6, according to the ARS.
