In France, 1 in 10 people are affected by kidney disease. A scourge that continues to grow by around 2% per year.
Discreet warning signals
Our kidneys are essential to life. But when things go wrong, the warning signs can be subtle or even absent. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a silent disease. The first symptoms only appear at an advanced stage of kidney damage.
Opt for early detection
Each year, approximately 11,000 people learn that they have end-stage kidney disease and must enter dialysis directly to replace the collapse in kidney function. Early detection allows appropriate management which will slow down or even stop the progression towards so-called “terminal” renal failure.
A high average cost per patient
Chronic pathologies and treatments represent two-thirds of expenses for a third of policyholders, or 24 million people. These represent an average cost per patient of €4,300 in 2020. Mental health, cancers and cardiovascular diseases alone account for 36% of expenses.
Actions at several levels
This is why the France Rein association, which represents the 80,000 people on dialysis and kidney transplant recipients in France, carries out actions at several levels by preventing the progression of kidney disease, by influencing public authorities in definition of health policies and improving the quality of life and treatment of patients.
