Highly contagious, measles is experiencing a resurgence in France, particularly due to an epidemic in Morocco that risks increasing its spread during vacations.
On March 7, 2025, the Ministry of Health issued a warning about the worrying situation, emphasizing that the highly contagious nature of the disease could lead to wider spread across the country in the coming weeks.
Measles presents with fever and a pinkish rash, sometimes accompanied by conjunctivitis, rhinitis, or a cough. Whitish patches in the mouth may also appear. Although recovery generally occurs within two to three weeks, the disease is transmissible by direct contact or through the air, even before symptoms appear.
Traveling abroad increases the risks. Since January, 13 cases linked to travel to Morocco, including 11 hospitalizations, have been recorded, compared to 26 cases in all of 2024.
Infants, pregnant women, and immunocompromised individuals are the most vulnerable. Despite mandatory vaccination since 2018, vaccination only begins at 12 months, leaving infants particularly at risk.
