Rare before the age of 50, the occurrence of prostate cancer gradually increases with age.
Several treatment modalities
It is a cancer with a good, or even very good, prognosis with a high survival rate. Several treatment modalities are offered to patients depending on their situation (type of smoker, location, stage of the disease): active surveillance, surgery, external radiotherapy, stereotaxy, brachytherapy, hormonal therapy, etc.
Improve patient care
In all these therapeutic areas but also at the time of diagnosis, clinical research and more fundamental research, the Institut Curie teams are constantly mobilizing to improve patient care.
A nuclear medicine technology
Among the therapies proposed to treat prostate cancer, sectorized internal radiotherapy (or IVR) is among the options when the cancer is metastatic. Unlike conventional external radiotherapy, this nuclear medicine technology consists of intravenous injections of weakly radioactive molecules which attach specifically to tumor cells to destroy them.
Sectorized internal radiotherapy
Since mid-October 2024, this RIV activity has been offered within the Institut Curie hospital in Saint-Cloud for patients with metastatic prostate cancer after chemotherapy as part of early access.
