Doctolib, the medical appointment platform, has announced the gradual deployment of online payment for in-office consultations. This functionality, already available for teleconsultations, should be implemented in the coming weeks.
The general director, Jean-Urbain Hubau, had previously announced this new development during a Senate hearing, scheduled for the second quarter of 2024. The objective is to simplify the billing process and save time for healthcare professionals.
Patients will be able to add their payment method on the Doctolib application or website after making an appointment. Once the consultation is completed, doctors and physiotherapists will be able to trigger payment in one click. A notification and a confirmation email will then be sent to the patient.
This innovation aims to save valuable time for practitioners. For physiotherapists, who are often faced with unpaid bills, online payment will also help secure their income. Doctolib ensures transactions are secure, working with a leading European payment service provider.
Finally, Doctolib plans to launch a secure mutual payment for healthcare professionals who use third-party payment by the end of the year. The platform also announced the launch of an artificial intelligence-based consultation assistant in October.
