Nestlé was forced to destroy a portion of its Perrier bottled water production following a drop in water quality detected in one of its wells located in Gard. This action was announced on Wednesday by the Nestlé Waters subsidiary, and the well in question was suspended until further notice.
Nestlé Waters said it had destroyed “several batches of bottles”, which corresponds to “several hundred pallets” normally distributed in stores, as a precautionary measure. The company mentioned an “occasional microbiological anomaly” without providing further details on the exact nature of the contamination. However, the group insisted that “all bottles available on the market are safe for consumption”.
Since the start of the year, the food industry giant has faced pressure following revelations concerning the management of the quality of its bottled water sources. In April, Nestlé said it had “strengthened monitoring” of its drilling in France, “under the supervision of the authorities”.
