The flu epidemic, which had spread throughout the metropolis in mid-January, intensified at the end of January, according to Public Health France. Between January 22 and 28, all indicators were on the rise in community medicine and hospitals for all age groups.
The weekly results were unfavorable in Guyana, Guadeloupe and Martinique, but the epidemic ended in Mayotte. Faced with this, the vaccination campaign, mainly targeting those over 65, was extended by one month, until February 29.
While the flu persists, the situation is improving for two other major respiratory epidemics: bronchiolitis, which mainly affects babies, and Covid-19. The bronchiolitis epidemic no longer concerns any metropolitan region, although some are still in the post-epidemic phase. In terms of hospitalizations, it has not reached the exceptionally high level of the 2022-2023 season, but remains significant.
For Covid, which operates in frequent waves rather than in an annual epidemic in winter, the indicators are decreasing or stable. In particular, positivity rates have decreased in cities and in hospitals, according to Public Health France.
