The flu epidemic is spreading in France, with two additional regions, Hauts-de-France and Île-de-France, going on epidemic alert for week 51 (December 18 to 24). Three other regions are in the pre-epidemic phase.
Influenza indicators are increasing, particularly among 0-14 year olds and those over 65. The consultation rate for influenza-like illness is 274 per 100,000 inhabitants, up compared to the previous week. Flu hospitalizations also increased by 38%, although remaining at a low level. Despite this increase, the circulation of the virus remains much lower than in December 2022.
Furthermore, the epidemic of bronchiolitis in babies is declining, although remaining at a high level. Finally, Covid-19 continues to circulate widely, although the wave is starting to ebb. In this context, Public Health France recalls the importance of barrier gestures and vaccination.
