In 2022 in France, 6,700 full hospitalization beds will be closed, continuing a downward trend for 20 years. Public and private hospitals had 374,290 beds at the end of 2022, a decrease of 1.8% compared to the previous year.
At the same time, 2,591 partial hospitalization places were created, bringing the total to 85,015 places. These figures reflect the desire of public authorities to reorganize the provision of care towards more outpatient care. Since the end of 2013, 39,000 beds have been eliminated and 17,400 places have been created.
The Minister of Health has promised to reopen several thousand beds by the end of the year. Nearly 29,800 beds were eliminated between the end of 2016 and the end of 2022, mainly under the presidency of Emmanuel Macron.
