In 2022, French companies recorded an increase in absenteeism, particularly among young people, which could be partially explained by the repercussions of new post-Covid work organization methods, according to a study published by the firm of WTW advice.

During 2022, the absenteeism rate increased to 5.3%, compared to 4.9% in 2021, 5.1% in 2020 and 3.9% in 2019, the year before the pandemic of Covid-19. The study indicates that “42% of workers (compared to 34% in 2021) took at least one day off during the year”.

This survey was based on the analysis of 345,000 employees from approximately 650 private sector companies over a period of four years. During 2022, 4% of periods of absence exceeded 90 days, constituting almost half of all absences, while 58% were of very short duration, i.e. less than 7 days.

This increase was more marked among employees under 40 (+16%) as well as among managers and intermediate professions (+14%), compared to an increase of 9% for all workers.< br>

According to a manager at WTW, "the new methods of organizing work quickly adopted by many companies have not been sufficiently supervised for many of them (management of teleworking and the right to disconnect, integration of new employees , support for workers in the digital transition, distance training, etc.)".
