A recently published article in the American scientific journal PNAS suggests that fried foods, often considered comforting, could have a negative impact on mental health.
The results of a study conducted on 140,728 people over 11.3 years show that subjects who regularly consume fried foods, particularly French fries, have a 12% higher risk of anxiety and a 7% higher risk of depression. Young men appear to be particularly affected. Scientists emphasize the importance of reducing fried food consumption for mental health.
However, other specialists believe these findings should be qualified. A doctor interviewed by CNN stated that the study could just as easily indicate that people suffering from anxiety or depression often turn to comfort foods to alleviate their symptoms. It is worth noting that the overall quality of diet influences both physical and mental health.
