Menopause is still taboo in our society. One in two women do not dare to talk about it to their doctor even though medical follow-up is often necessary. The “All for menopause” collective is mobilizing for better information on this period of life and changing our outlook.
Menopause, an inevitable milestone in life
Stoppage of periods, reproductive functions, inevitable menopause, generally occurs around the age of fifty and today affects 14 million French women. Although it sometimes does not cause any symptoms, it often results in hot flashes or night sweats which are well known. Others less so, such as weight gain, mood disorders, a drop in libido and also an increase in cardiovascular risk and osteoporosis. In a recent study, nine out of ten women experienced at least one symptom of menopause and for 20% of them these symptoms had a strong impact on their daily life. But they did not talk about it to their doctor, even though they can be taken care of.
A health journey from age 45
To break taboos and make menopause a peaceful and liberated moment of life, the “All for menopause” collective, made up of four committed women from civil society and four gynecologists, is mobilizing through a manifesto. Among their proposals: create a health pathway from the age of 45, the time of peri-pre-menopause, with a free consultation. A key moment to talk about the symptoms we feel, to identify women at risk of cardiovascular and bone pathologies. All this allows, if necessary, to implement treatments to improve these pathologies.
In the meantime, do not hesitate and consult a health professional at the first symptoms of perimenopause around the age of 45. Quite simply to ensure your well-being and better health in the future!
