Psychiatric illnesses include complex, sometimes severe, and often chronic pathologies: depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorders, schizophrenia and other psychoses, addictions, etc.
One in four people will be affected
Still too little known and stigmatized among the population, these pathologies are nevertheless very common: the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 1 in 4 people will be affected at some point in their life by a psychiatric disorder.
A worsening of the patients’ condition
The health crisis we are going through today has put them back in the spotlight, with a high rate of depression and anxiety during confinement, post-traumatic stress and burn-out among healthcare staff, as well as a worsening of the condition of patients out of care.
The FRM funds this area of ??research
Aware of the need to invest in mental health research, to better understand all psychiatric pathologies, better diagnose them and explore new therapeutic avenues, the Foundation for Medical Research (FRM) has for many years allocated a substantial budget to this area of ??research. Currently, it needs donations to allow the most innovative projects to move forward.
