Cerebral palsy is the leading cause of motor disability in children: 1 birth every six hours in France.
A permanent handicap
Cerebral palsy refers to a group of disorders that affect a person's movements from birth. It is a permanent disability that is caused by damage to the baby's developing brain, either during pregnancy or around birth.
Multiple causes
There are multiple causes, such as premature birth or a cord wrapped around the baby's neck during birth. This can therefore happen to any newborn.
More or less serious consequences
The consequences can be more or less serious, ranging from slight difficulty walking to serious impairment of motor skills leading to the use of a wheelchair (paralysis of one side of the body or even all four limbs).
Less visible deficiencies
People with cerebral palsy may also have less visible impairments such as visual and speech problems, epilepsy, learning disabilities, and even intellectual disability.
Donations to help research
The considerable progress of science through research in recent years makes major innovations possible. Hence the importance of donations to finance the projects that bring the most hope and progress.
