As with girls, will boys soon be vaccinated against papillomavirus?
Today, vaccination against papillomaviruses is recommended in France for all girls aged 11 to 14, because this type of virus can cause cervical cancer.
The Minister of Health, Agnès Buzyn, says she is in favor of boys also receiving the vaccine, because men are also likely to be contaminated, and to consequently develop anal cancer or cancer of the ENT sphere.
A 2016 American study showed that following oral sex, men are twice as likely as women to be affected by throat and mouth cancers linked to papillomavirus infection.
Upon referral to the Minister, the High Authority for Health (HAS) is studying this question and will issue an opinion during the year.
