Since September, 200 cases of mushroom poisoning, including one fatality, have been recorded in New Aquitaine. In Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, 150 cases were recorded between August 1 and October 17, also with one death. In total, more than 400 cases have been recorded throughout the national territory, according to ANSES.
The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Regional Health Agency (ARS) has launched an alert following several serious cases reported by the Lyon poison control center. Symptoms include behavioral and digestive problems, and kidney failure that may require dialysis or a transplant. Among the species responsible are the Amanita phalloides and certain lepiotes.
In 2023, more than 1,400 mushroom poisonings were reported between July 1 and December 31, mainly in November, a month usually less affected.
