According to a report from the Fondation de France, 10% of French people are isolated and 20% feel alone, highlighting a link between isolation and precariousness. The survey reveals that 12% of French people are totally isolated in 2023, compared to 11% in 2022, having little or no contact with the five relational networks. By adding those who have only one network, around a third of French people are in “relational fragility”.
The most vulnerable, such as the unemployed (20%) and workers (18%), are more isolated. The survey, conducted by Crédoc in January and July 2023, indicates that inflation is worsening the situation, with 70% of people reducing their outside activities because of rising prices.
In addition, 21% of people feel alone, particularly young people aged 15-25 (26%), a figure which rises to 45% in summer. Rural areas and priority neighborhoods, which are poorer than average, have more people who are isolated and feel alone.
