From October 1, 2023, dental costs could increase in France. Health Insurance reimbursements for dental care will increase from 70% to 65 or 55% of the conventional rate. Without additional insurance, this means an out-of-pocket cost of 35 to 45% for common procedures.
This 10% reduction in reimbursements aims to reduce Health Insurance expenditure by 500 million euros per year, thus transferring the cost to insurance companies and citizens. Although the government assures that this will not affect healthcare professionals or patients in the short term, supplementary companies will probably have to increase premiums, impacting policyholders. For French people without complementary health insurance, around 2.5 million people, this measure could worsen inequalities and lead to forgoing care.
This reduction in reimbursements aims to encourage dental prevention and limit costly treatments.
